30 Days of Dresses: Finally, a Frock

Hooray! June is 30 Days of Dresses (and skirts)! I'll be eschewing pants this month and posting outfit pictures of my snazziest ensembles.

I know, I know. This is the first time in 30 Days of Dresses that I've opted for a dress, not a skirt. Well!

Dress: Thrifted (Talbots), Shoes: Payless, Necklace: Vintage

I love this dress, but it makes for some very uninteresting outfits. How do you jazz up a sundress? The whole point is that it's a simple, summery single-piece ensemble. Huh!

I had a harrowing moment tottering around the liquor store on these shoes. I'm still not used to such a high heel and my ankle-- the treacherous wench!-- buckled. I very nearly crashed into several thousand dollars worth of single-malt scotch.

During the rest of our errands, I was silently coaching myself. "Okay, if you fall over, make sure to land on your teeth, not on the shelves."

Aaah.

30 Days of Dresses: Pattern Mixing

Hooray! June is 30 Days of Dresses (and skirts)! I'll be eschewing pants this month and posting outfit pictures of my snazziest ensembles.

Pattern mixing! The delight of style bloggers (and people who have all their solid-colored tops in the laundry) everywhere! I'm very timid with it: not mixing patterns was one of the few Guidelines of Style my mother tried to impress on my six-year-old perpetually-clashing self.

But I'm an adult now, mom. I do what I want.

Shirt: Thrifted Skirt: Thrifted Barely Visible Bracelet: Thrifted Shoes: Payless Umbrella: Stop making fun of it, it's from my Nana and I love her.

I have tricky fortune with umbrellas. All my cute ones break or vanish after about two weeks. And this incredibly stodgy number has been with me for five years. Isn't that life?

These shoes were surprisingly practical for a dripping day. I clomped around several inches above the mud and puddles, pretending I was wearing medieval pattens.

I'm trying to decide how to spend a giftcard I won to InPink via Sidewalk Ready. Hrm-- would you pick this turquoise multistrand necklace or gold-and-turquoise bib? Deeeecisions.

It's a shame that my enormous ears aren't pierced anymore-- I would have to pass the earrings off to a friend!

30 Days of Dresses: Allegedly Nautical

Hooray! June is 30 Days of Dresses (and skirts)! I'll be eschewing pants this month and posting outfit pictures of my snazziest ensembles.

Aargh. The sea be in me blood. Which is a complicated way of saying "hello. This shirt vaguely reminds me of sailors."

Shirt: LL Bean Skirt: Banana Republic (thrifted) Flats: Target Necklace: Gift

I started the day wearing mah new wedges, but it's sewing time. Turns out that 4" heels + sewing machine pedals don't work well together. You win this time, practicality.

These photos were snapped about six minutes before the sun set and it started to rain. (Ugh, how Tuesday-ish.) Now it's time to hole up for the night and keep sewing costumes. The medieval reenactment busy season is relentless, y'all.

The Sunday Something: 6/3/12

In an effort to prove that I'm still alive, here are several Somethings from the past week. Whew!

Wearing: NO PANTS. June is 30 Days of Dresses in a whole Summer of Dresses! Wear a skirt or dress, because it's summer and you're excellent. I know I'm in.

Blouse: Thrifted and tailored Talbots. Skirt: "Vintage" Banana Republic. Sandals: Gap. Necklace: Swapped with a friend for a pint of chocolate milk. Lip color: Yes To Carrots 'Ready Red.'

This look is either 1. what Lady Sybil Crawley or Valancy Stirling might wear on safari or 2. turn-of-the-century librarian chic. I wore it to housesit some kittens, and yes, they were very impressed with my sartorial choices.
